Visualisation Information

About the Visualisation

At the end of the survey, everyone who completes the survey receives a link to a personalised visualisation of how their symptoms compare to the thousands of other people in the survey.

An example of the visualisation is shown below. Each circle represents an item of the survey and hovering your cursor over a circle shows the wording for that item along with your response and the average response for others who have completed the survey.

The circles are arrange based on the strength of the relationships between the items in the full sample—specifically, based on their correlations. If people tend to give similar answers to a set of items, they will be more strongly correlated than with other items. So items that are more closely related to each other are closer together, and items that are less closely related are further apart.

The size of the circles is based on the average response to each item, and the colour of the circle is based on your responses.

Data Privacy

Importantly, the visualisation contains no personal identifying information and uses only your randomly generated 'Response ID' to plot your responses to the survey. The plugin to create this visualisation is hosted by Heroku and does not collect or store your data: Upon each request to display the data, the plugin retrieves the survey data via an encrypted secret key to generate the display. The data is read, processed, sent to the browser for display and then automatically deleted immediately. The plugin stores only the ID code for the survey and the encrypted secret key, which cannot be retrieved by anyone (even administrators) once it is set.

However, remember that sharing the link to your personalised visualisation with others will show them your personal responses. You should not share your link if you do not want others to see your responses.
